New ADSL technology is making our broadband service faster, more reliable, and available over greater distances. Because of the work involved, these higher-speed connections will be rolled out progressively until they are available on approximately 96% of UK business lines.

The new technology will monitor your line quality. You will no longer have to specify the download speed you require, because it will be set automatically to the maximum that the phone line can support.

The speed available over a particular line will depend on a number of factors, eg, the line quality, distance from the exchange, age or type of modem or router, speed of your computer, and whether your broadband micro-filters are correctly installed. About 25% of Business Broadband users should achieve a maximum download speed of 6.5Mb and above. Other users will achieve less than this, but nevertheless the optimum speed for their line, based on the factors above.

Maximum upload speeds will also increase, though they too are subject to line quality. Regraded BT Business Broadband Lite, Single and Share will have upload speeds of up to 448kb. Network and Network Premium will have upload speeds of up to 832kb
